The holidays were a lot brighter for thousands of metro Atlanta families this year thanks to V-103 radio personality Egypt Sherrod and the 4th Annual “Egypt Cares Give Back Tour” — a week-long clothing, toiletry and toy drive that attracted the generosity of several residents, celebrities and notable public figures from around the metro-Atlanta area. This year “Egypt’s Give Back Tour” benefited The Atlanta Children’s Shelter, The Cascade House and The Covenant House.
Working with the Egypt Cares Family Foundation, I For Talent Management and SJ Oglesby PR, special guests at the fundraiser included Nicci Gilbert (Grammy Award-winning singer and TV One’s “R&B Divas” creator), Isaac Carree (Stellar Award-winning singer, songwriter & producer),Towanda Braxton (cast member of WE TV’s “Braxton Family Values”), Mariah Huq and Quad Webb-Lunceford (cast member of Bravo TV’s “Married to Medicine), Q Parker (actor and Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter & member of 112), Algebra Blessett (Grammy nominated singer & songwriter), Malinda Williams (NAACP Image Award-winning actress), Evelyn Wynn-Dixon(Mayor of Riverdale, Georgia), Tasha Cobbs (Stellar Award-winning gospel singer), Karyn Greer(news anchor for NBC’s 11 Alive), Shay Johnson (cast member of VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop), and Bobby Valentino (singer & songwriter).
“This event means so much too so many people and I can’t thank the local community enough for its support,” stated Egypt. “I relocated with my family to Atlanta in 2011 to join the V-103 family and I instantly fell in love with the warmth of the people of Atlanta, and the city I now call home.
“However, after much consideration I have decided that the time is right for me to take a break from the station while I look to focus on a number of upcoming multi-media business opportunities. Have no fear; I have 19 years of my life invested in radio, and I have no plans of walking away from it permanently. I am very excited about the dynamic year ahead I have in store.”
In 2014, Egypt will host several upcoming seasons of the popular HGTV series “Property Virgins,”launch a national tour to promote her real estate book, continue as a national speaker, and work on three new shows she co-created and will executive produce.
Egypt added, “I have enjoyed the past two years I spent as an on-air talent at V-103, and am looking forward to all the great blessings God continues to consistently place in my life. Thank you to the people of Atlanta…I love you forever!”
