Justine Sacco may have posted the dumbest and most offensive tweet of 2013. Sacco, the PR director for media company IAC, sent a racist tweet about her trip to Africa on Dec. 20.
Sacco tweeted, “Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white.”
The tweet was deleted hours later and her Twitter account disappeared by Friday night. However, her tweet was already viewed by thousands before her account was deleted.
IAC (which owns websites such as College Humor, Match.com, Black People Meet, and Vimeo) released a statement regarding the tweet saying, “This is an outrageous, offensive comment that does not reflect the views and values of IAC.” The company did not mention how Sacco would be punished.
Sacco has yet to apologize for her remarks.
