Chicago filmmaker Sanicole debuts new web-series ‘The City Hates Us’

the city hates us

The City Hates Us is a new web series written and directed by up and coming Chicago bred filmmaker Sandrel “Sanicole” Young.

The series focuses on the lives of six everyday young black artist who struggle to get their voices heard in a major city. Even with being entirely filmed in and representing Chicago, the series serves as a metaphor for all artist in every city. Frequent themes include love, causal and business relationships, single motherhood and friendship.

Young felt it important to help shed a positive light on Chicago’s artistic community and help dispel a popular myth:

“There’s a lot of chatter about Chicago being the “city of haters” and that we don’t really support our own” says Sanicole. “So I wanted to create a project that kinda shows the positive side of artists and show how they’re working towards being successful while dealing with real issues”.
