Ever since the new season of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” began Kandi Burruss’ mother, Mama Joyce, has been pegged as one of the most hated cast members thanks to her constant bashing against Burruss’ fiancé, Todd Tucker. But according to Joyce, it’s not her fault that she looks so mean on TV. It’s Bravo’s fault for editing her to look bad.
In an interview with RadarOnline, Joyce claims that Bravo edits her scenes to taker her words and actions out of context, turning her into one of the villains of the show.
“That upset me so bad,” Mama Joyce told Radar. “When they showed the scene of me walking into the house and seeing all the pictures of Todd on the wall I was not talking about his pictures!”
Joyce goes on to further discuss the past episode in which she criticized Tucker and her daughter for only having pictures of Tucker hanging up on a wall in their home. However, Joyce claims that Bravo edited the scene to make it look like she was unfairly judging Tucker.
“I know Kandi had a decorator, her friend Carmon – and she put up all those pictures of Todd when he was a little boy,” she recalled.
“I said, ‘Now that’s a damn shame,’ and what I really said was that shouldn’t be all him up there (on the wall). That shouldn’t be his wall. I said there were no picture of Riley or me. I didn’t just say there should be a picture of me,” she explained.
According to Joyce, she actually thought the wall should only be devoted to her granddaughter, Riley.
“I said the pictures of Riley should be much higher and the pictures of Kandi’s daughter should be up there, not just pictures of Todd. But they didn’t show that. They only showed me saying it shouldn’t be just him,”said Joyce.
Joyce says that she’s not exactly sure why producers are framing her as a villain, but she assumes it’s because she’s an easy target.
I don’t know why they did that. I allowed it to be like that, I guess. I guess since they don’t pay me, they can do whatever they want,” she said before claiming she should have had a contract.
“I would never have agreed to it,” she lamented. “I am very upset about what they did and I don’t know if I’ll be back on the show.”
Well, we’re definitely aware that reality TV shows embellish and edit stories to get the most amount of drama that they can. Unfortunately, Bravo isn’t all to blame for Joyce’s bad image. Part of that responsibility falls upon her and her temper and meddling. Still though, if she’s gonna be a villainous pawn for the cbale channel, she might as well get paid for it – or walk away altogether. – nicholas robinson
