Avonte Oquendo dead
A New York teen whose been missing for over 3 months has been confirmed dead. Police report that body parts found in the East River belong to 14-year-old Avonte Oquendo who first disappeared in October.
As previously reported a severed arm was discovered Thursday alongside the East River. After investigating further, police found a torso and legs now confirmed to belong to the mute and autistic teen.
On October 4, 2013 Avonte went missing from his Long Island school. Surveillance footage showed a school safety agent stop Oquendo from leaving the facility’s main door before he fled out another door on the school grounds.
The family of Avonte are expected to make a statement via their attorney Daniel Perecman later today.
