Cobb County MLK Day parade 2014
Cobb County, Ga., residents came out in droves for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. day parade Monday, Jan. 20, 2014.
Members of the National Pan Hellenic Council flooded the march to the Marietta Square, including the Rho Zeta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated (below) who passed out treats to onlookers and carried a message of economic security and better health.
Other NPHC participants included reps from Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated. The black Greek letter organizations posed for a unity photo with their respective consortiums and welcomed local youth and volunteer participants.
After walking 1.5 miles the groups gathered for the Cobb chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference’s annual King Day ceremony headed by Dr. Cheryl Graves. Against sunny skies and balmy temps, participants listened to reflections from 11Alive meteorologist Chesley McNeil (below) and spoken word by the Poet of Peace. The observance highlighted the SCLC’s strides to continually espouse Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream through service, Christianity, equality and education.
