Rap Genius website debuts new iPhone app

Popular rap lyric deciphering website Rap Genius has just made it that much easier to catch every lyric for all your favorite songs with the debut of their new iPhone app.

Reaching beyond the realms of the website, the “Genius” app will also access lyrics to all the songs in a users iTunes library, and interpret lyrics to any song playing around them at the moment.

Co-founder Tom Lehman is excited about the launch of the app, which he feels has been long desired by Rap Genius fans.

“This is the true launch of Rap Genius. Right now, more than half of our traffic comes from mobile devices. Soon, it will be 100%,” says Lehman. “In 1,000 years, when the aliens land, ‘Rap Genius’ will literally mean ‘that dope iPhone app’. This app has long been our users’ most-requested feature, and we’re pumped to finally deliver.”

Lehman wants to stress that although the app is derived from the Rap Genius website, it has more offer than just rap lyrics.

“Rap Genius started with Hip Hop because we are obsessed with music and lyricism,” Lehman adds. “Now, Genius gives you access to Rock Genius, Poetry Genius, and News Genius. So you can use it to check out annotated versions of Vampire Weekend tracks, Sun Tzu’s Art of War (annotated by Ben Horowitz!), or Satoshi Nakamoto’s original Bitcoin paper (annotated by Coinbase!).”

The Rap Genius iPhone app is available via the iPhone app store or by visiting rapgenius.com.
