On February 5, 2014, a twisted and evil crime occurred in a Houston, Tex. suburb as two teens attempted to make a deal with Satan. Jose E. Reyes, age 17, and a 16-year-old boy are accused of luring classmate Corriann Cervantes to an empty apartment where she was raped, mutilated and murdered. During the ordeal, an upside down cross was cut into her stomach. The killers beat her with a toilet tank lid, stabbed her in the face with a screwdriver before eventually strangling the victim.
Harris County prosecutor John Jordan stated, “What happened in that vacant apartment was sadistic. What will eventually happen in the courtroom is justice,” The 16-year-old is not being identified because of his age. The prosecutor stated that Reyes told the 16-year-old that killing the girl would allow him to sell his soul to Satan. Jordan said that at one point Cervantes yelled out, “Why are you doing this to me?” Because of the condition of the body, authorities are trying to determine whether the girl died from the beating, strangulation, rape or screwdriver to the face.
Reyes’ family noticed something was wrong and after speaking to him, the family went to the police. Authorities stated that there was evidence at the home that indicated satanic worship. Because the two assailants are under 18 years of age, they are not eligible for the death penalty. It is undetermined at this time whether the 16-year-old will be tried as an adult.
