2014 Winner: rolling out‘s 2014 Best Sauna & Spa
Twenty-five dollars will get your 24-hour access to JeJu Sauna & Spa, a traditional Korean bathing house nestled in Duluth. What’s impressive about this spa isn’t the price; it is the peace and serenity your mind and body experiences during and after a visit. Interested? You should be.
JeJu’s operation is pretty fluid. You walk in, pay the $25 admission fee and they give you a change of clothes and a locker room key and key fob that serves as a credit card of sorts throughout the spa. Instead of carrying around your wallet and/or even cash, you simply scan the fob and you will pay for your expenditures during your checkout, including any extra services.
Go to your respective locker rooms, remove your shoes first, change your clothes and prepare to see folks in their birthday suits. Some of the spa’s most raved about services are actually experienced in the naked bath area. Dip your body in their Jacuzzi, cold or warm bath with infrared lighting and for additional fees, you can get an exfoliating body scrub and hip bath, Korean style Sitz bath (for women). The dry and wet sauna rooms open and clean your pores and helps heal minor aches and pains in your body and the cold (really, really cold) bath pool rejuvenates your body, strengthens your immune system and blood circulation.
To experience JeJu’s nine different sauna rooms with healing properties, including the jade, salt and the charcoal rooms, you will have to be dressed. My favorite room is the jewel room. In the jewel room semi-precious stones, crystals, and amethyst, known to have great healing and calming powers, will surround you. You will feel rejuvenated and renewed, restored in both body and mind as glowing powers of these stones wrap around you.
This is the unisex section of the sauna includes a heated jade floor, an exercise room, a salt pool, and dining with fresh Korean and American. Plus, what would a spa be without a fresh juice bar? Yes, they house that too.
Additional services include reflexology foot massage, acupuncture, foot and chair massages, manicures, pedicures and more. JeJu has pillows, towels, and blankets available for its guests, as well as super attentive staff who make sure that you are comfortable during your JeJu day.
Instead of ladies night out, opt for a JeJu all night out. The time will fly by and you will leave there feeling like you went on a weekend retreat. Bring your laptop or iPad if you like, they have WiFi and bring some good music/headphones as the bathhouse is a family friendly environment. My little three-year-old doll, Mia loved it too.
