In the video above Gayle King touches on why Lupita Nyong’o inspires so many young girls. King explains, “It’s important that we have our own stories told and we tell out own stories. When you’re a little black girl and you’re looking at TV it’s important to see people that look like you. There’s some little girl looking at this saying ‘I want to be like Lupita. I want to be like Oprah. I want to accomplish what they’ve accomplished’ with the women [at the luncheon] you can see that that’s possible”
