Both win $25,000 each for the victory but Gobena will take home a bonus of $50,000 for winning the “gender” challenge. The women were given a 17:41 head start.

The 29th Annual Asics Marathon has 25,000 runners and is sold out.

Here are some Marathon course fast facts: 26 miles, 385 yards; Dodger Stadium to Pacific Ocean through L.A., West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and finishing at Ocean and California avenues in Santa Monica. It has an elevation decline of 430 feet and will navigate 36 streets.

It is a great day for Gobena, who in 2009 finished second.
