How do you define your role?
As CEO of Juice-C-Juice Books & More, it is my responsibility to ensure our operation functions effectively, to ensure the staff morale is high, our customer service is superb, ensure inventory is maintained, and accounting is reconciled.
Juice-C-Juice Books & More is the meeting ground for the community. It is our mission to offer a destination for the entire family, offering a wide range of products encouraging a healthy lifestyle. Our customers can indulge in fresh, made to order, fruit and vegetable juices, salads, sandwiches, other snacks, books, gift items, toiletries and more.
Life comes with challenges. I keep this in mind as I am presented with them in business. I approach them objectively looking for the lesson each challenge presents while concentrating on a solution.
When searching for a new Juice Chemist — names given to our staff — we look for outgoing and reliable people interested in healthier lifestyles and not afraid to learn their way around the kitchen.
Our staff benefits from the positive environment of Juice-C-Juice Books & More and the high energy exchange offered by providing our customers a place to feed their mind, body and soul! Drinking the leftovers of fresh fruits and veggie juices is an added bonus. The staff discounts on book purchases increases personal growth and development. Once a month, I prepare a home cooked meal for our staff meetings. This is an added benefit for us all to have a chance to connect and discuss how we can be most effective as individuals and as a unit.
How do you use technology?
Technology is evolving and it is essential. We maximize how it can make us most effective. We use the Apple iPad for our cash register-point of sale system. We believe social media is extremely important to put Juice-C-Juice Books & More directly in the minds of our customers and potential customers. We use a television with constant rotation for an in-store display of pictures, videos and specials offered.
Two key factors for business success are …
1) Customers service is essential. When customers have a great experience, they always make a return visit and usually tell friends and often time bring friends with them. Word of mouth is essential in building a successful business. Keeping in mind customers with bad experiences share that bad word faster than satisfied customers. Our goal at Juice-C-Juice Books & More is to ensure each customer has a great experience each visit.
2) Effective accounting is essential. It is necessary the cost of goods is accurately calculated to ensure the sell cost is set competitively yet allows for profit.
Three business books that you are reading…
1) 32 Ways to be a Champion in Business by Earvin Magic Johnson
2) Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
3) How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
How would you title a speech about the future skill sets needed to be successful?
Speaking to 500 workers at a retraining seminar about skill sets needed in the future, my speech would be titled “Staying Flexible, Working TowardEfficiency.” These two skills will ensure we stay cutting edge, flexible enough to change with the needs of our customers and our industry; using our time and resources to ensure efficiency.
How would you define the leadership style?
My leadership style could be classified as hands-on. I am on-site and actively involved ensuring our staff knows how to do our tasks most effectively, as well as how to ensure our customers have a great experience each visit.
