Woman performs C-section on dog, closes incision with glue

Candace Patricia Hauser2A dilly and deranged woman, Candace Patricia Hauser, 31, is facing a felony charge of aggravated cruelty to animals after she allegedly performed a barbaric cesarean section on a dog and then closed the laceration with household glue.

Hauser is accused of performing the lethal C-section on a dog — and without anesthesia to boot — before using non-surgical glue to close the incision in the Mastiff’s midsection.

Hauser is being charged by authorities because she said did not have a license to practice veterinary care and was arrested in Tampa, Fla., on Saturday, March 15, about a week after the Mastiff died from its horrid injuries.

Authorities say the trouble began after dog owner Brenda Hines of nearby Winter Haven, Fla., brought the pregnant Mastiff to Hauser for help after the dog went into labor on March 4.

“She takes it over to the woman and the woman starts to help this dog birth by manual means — she actually reached into the dog and pulls 12 puppies out,” said Ron Spiller of Hillsborough County Animal Safety and Enforcement.

It was when the dog had trouble delivering her last two puppies that Spilled said Hauser, 31, decided to open the dog up, without anesthesia.

“She glued the incision, she didn’t suture it, she glued it,” Spiller said of Hauser’s handiwork once the puppies were out.

The dog, who was already in declining health, died in her owner’s car on the way to the vet.

Local law enforcement officials were tipped off to the barbaric surgery when Hines, apparently not realizing the dog was dead, took the Mastiff’s body to a Winter Haven veterinarian and told them it was dying. Shocked vets informed her that the dog was already dead before they contacted the Polk County Sheriff’s Office who tipped off Spiller’s team.

Hauser was arrested on a third-degree felony charge of aggravated cruelty to animals days after the surgery.

She faces a maximum of five years behind bars and may forfeit the right to own animals in Hillsborough County, Fla. ever again.

The Tampa Tribune reports the State Attorney’s Office is expected to determine if other charges will be filed in the case, including Hauser’s practice of medicine without a license.
