Washington, D.C. police announced that they have found the body of Khalil Tatum with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. However, the whereabouts of Relisha Rudd, the missing eight-year-old girl he kidnapped, is still unknown. After an exhaustive search of Kenilworth Park and Aquatic, police Chief Cathy Lanier stated, “Let’s just say that we’re pretty comfortable that this is a suicide case.” Tatum was last seen with Rudd, March 1, 2014.The child had been missing for more than 30 days before police began their investigation on March 19, 2014.
The search at the park was initiated after reports stated that Tatum was seen purchasing heavy duty trash bags, a shovel and a bag of quick lime. This indicated to homicide investigators that Tatum had a “burial kit’’ and that Rudd might be dead. Chief Lanier went on to state, “Our work continues. We still have a lot to do, and we are still here for the reason we came here to begin with — and that is to look for Relisha.”
