The Clark Atlanta University Jazz Vocal Ensemble and the Clark Atlanta University Jazz Orchestra will perform at the 21st annual Jazz Under The Stars Concert along with the incomparable songstress Lalah Hathaway.
Born to R&B and soul music royalty, the three-time Grammy Award nominee and recent Grammy Award winner is a trained pianist and vocalist. Hathaway is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music whose career has spanned more than two decades. Hathaway’s body of work includes multiple solo releases, guest collaborations and a steady stream of unforgettable live performances — recording and touring with several legendary acts including George Benson, Joe Sample, the late George Duke, Take 6, Marcus Miller, Rahsaan Patterson, Mary J. Blige, The Winans, Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, David Sanborn, Carl Thomas, Angie Stone, Robert Glasper, Donald Lawrence, Eric Roberson, Grover Washington, Esperanza Spalding and Prince.
Join her on Saturday, May 3, at 7 p.m. on the Harkness Hall Quadrangle at Clark Atlanta University, 223 James P. Brawley Drive, S.W. Hathaway will conduct a private Master Class for selected CAU music majors on Friday, May 2. The concert is hosted by the CAU Guild, with UPS® as the presenting sponsor, Jazz Under the Stars will be held rain or shine and will benefit CAU students in the performing arts. The platinum sponsors are Delta Air Lines and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The CAU Jazz Vocal Ensemble and the Jazz Orchestra also will perform. Live and silent auctions will take place.
Since 1992, the CAU Guild, which includes some of Atlanta’s most influential women, has raised nearly $2 million in scholarships. Corporate tables and sponsorships are available.
