Maybe 50 Cent’s departure from Interscope wasn’t as amicable as previously reported.
Recently stopping by the “Cosmic Kev” radio show, 50 tells of how his involvement with the SMS Audio brand clashed with Iovine and Dr. Dre’s Beats By Dre brand so much that it began to deteriorate their working relationship:
The last communication I had with Jimmy, we were actually talking, and Jimmy tells me he doesn’t like me. For whatever reasons — the miscommunications or his interpretation of why I’m actually doing the things that I’m doing — it doesn’t even matter. Just get me off the actual label before this s—goes bad. Because I’m not getting the actual response I want out of the material that I’m releasing with them, and it’s to the point where I’m not even trying to put the right thing out. I’m just sitting here, “Put that one. Get that one. You can’t get a song with Em and Adam Levine? What can you get?” They didn’t get anything on Kendrick [Lamar] until after the record sold.
50 also stated this he’s actually doing better now than he has in years at Interscope. His single, “Smoke,” is doing pretty good at radio without the backing of the powerhouse label.
Though giving credit to Iovine for playing such an instrumental role in the success of his career, 50 was sure to add one more parting shot “I’m prejudiced … I don’t like people who don’t like me.”
