Cynthia Bailey and NeNe Leakes’ falling out has been the hot topic of the reality TV world for weeks, especially in the wake of the recent “Real Housewives of Atlanta” reunion in which Bailey confronted Leakes about their feud. And although Bailey says that she hoped she and Leakes could mend fences and become BFFs again, she recently explained how she learned her former BFF was out to destroy her.
Bailey and her husband, Peter Thomas, recently sat down for an interview on “The Rickey Smiley Show” and Bailey explained that she thought she and Leakes could eventually make peace and become friends again. But that all changed when Leakes appeared on “Watch What Happens Live” a few weeks ago and claimed that Bailey brings nothing good to “RHOA.”
“NeNe and I, I felt like we had a genuine friendship for a long time, for four years. Even when we stopped being friends I just thought we could peacefully go our separate ways,” Cynthia explained. “I never doubted for a second that this woman looked out for me and I looked out for her and our friendship was genuine until she went on Andy’s show and made it very clear, crystal clear, that she had no regard for me, for my family, for my job, how we put food on my table.”
Although Leakes never explicitly said that Bailey should be fired from the show, she made it clear that the franchise wouldn’t be hurt if Bailey wasn’t picked to come back to the show next season.
“She really tried to take all of that away,” Bailey said about Leakes questioning her place on “RHOA.” “That was the only time that I thought, ‘You could never say you were my friend and be able to do that.’ People can move on without trying to destroy each other.”
Bailey says that after the cameras stopped rolling during the reunion, which was filmed before Leakes’ “WWHL” appearance, she offered to speak to Leakes privately to fix their friendship. But Leakes clearly wanted nothing more to do with Bailey and has since accused Bailey of running to her enemy, Kenya Moore.
And although Bailey denies being anything more than friendly with Moore, she says that she’s open to making friends with the rest of the cast now that she and Leakes are no longer friends.
“I’ve never gotten that close to the other girls on the show and now that I’m not best buds with NeNe, some of the other ladies will be more open and I’ll be more open to getting to know them,” said Bailey who isn’t expecting to mend things with Leakes.
Bailey still says that Leakes’ actions towards her were unfair and that she was nothing but a good friend to her.
“I don’t think I did anything wrong. That would mean she has to apologize and figure out a way to make it right, and she’s not big on apologizing,” she said. “I’m not going to hold my breath. I’m assuming it’s done. That ship has sailed.”
Well, good friend or not, reality TV friendships rarely last, especially when egos, paychecks and insecurity get in the way. However, we assume that Bailey will be fine moving on without Leakes in her life. – nicholas robinson
