Tyler Perry has filed a lawsuit against the producers of his hit television sitcom “For Better or Worse” that is currently airing on OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network.

Perry is suing the producers for $1.8 million for studio damage as a result of an accident that ignited a fire in his multimillion-dollar studio in May 2012.

The lawsuit states that the fire was ignited when a technician placed a hot white light too close to a wooden facade on set. Tyler Perry claims that the fire was an act of negligence on behalf of the producers. Perry believes that the producers are responsible for hiring competent and qualified professionals to avoid such situations.

The fire was thoroughly investigated by the Atlanta Fire Department, however, Atlanta’s fire chief, Kelvin J. Cochran could not determine the source of the fire because the damage was too extensive. “The intensity of the fire in the area of origin consumed any evidence that would lead to a cause of ignition,” Cochran stated according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

Oddly enough, Tyler Perry Studios is the company that produces the show and is responsible for any lawsuits or claims. Tyler Perry is listed as one of the producers of the show.
