Could Jay Electronica be done with social media?
The reclusive emcee likes his privacy. Electronica has been involved in one of hip-hop’s most visible “low-profile” relationships over the past two years, romantically-linked to wealthy heiress Kate Rothschild since 2012. Having maintained a Twitter presence for several years, fans were surprised yesterday to discover that Electronica’s twitter account has been deleted.
No proclamation was made from the rapper himself prior to his account’s sudden shutdown.
Last month, Electronica sent out a series of tweets, many of which were about the current state of hip-hop in his view and others that were responses to questions from fans. He first gained widespread attention in 2007, after he posted his song “Act I (Eternal Sunshine): The Pledge” via Myspace that year.
Signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation label, Electronica is finally expected to release his debut album later this year. He recently appeared on “We Made It,” a freestyle over the Drake-Soulja Boy track of the same name. The song also featured Jay Z.
Electronica also has a five-year old daughter with soul singer Erykah Badu.
During Electronica’s last Twitter Q&A with fans, he was asked about “Control,” the Big Sean track that he appeared on late last year, along with Kendrick Lamar. Lamar’s explosive verse drew tremendous buzz at the time, and Jay Elect was asked to rank the three rhymers’ verses from the song.
“Me, Big Sean then Kendrick. He really didn’t say anything,” Jay Electronica said. “No shots. Everyone knows I like Kendrick. but facts are facts.”
