Rapper JayAre, of the group Cali Swag District, died June 6 at the age of 24.
JayAre, born Cahron Childs, suffered from sickle cell anemia and was admitted to a medical facility on Thursday night for unknown reasons. According to numerous reports, JayAre fell into cardiac arrest while at the hospital and later died.
“Life is too short. but the afterlife is much better place than here. RIP Jayare @Jayare_CSD,” rapper Cobe Obeah tweeted. “God..smh, my brothas from Cali Swag keeps losing its members. Shine light and spread love on them world.”
JayAre’s death is the second time the “Teach Me How to Dougie” group has faced tragedy. Originally a quartet, member M-Bone was murdered at the age of 22 in a drive-by shooting in May of 2011.
The group became stars on the strength of their 2010 hit “Teach Me How to Dougie.” After M-Bone was murdered, members Smoove, Yung and JayAre released their debut album, The Kickback.
Their most recent release was a mixtape titled The District earlier this year.
