Naturi Naughton gets approached by more than her fair share of potential suitors, and the sexy actress-singer has been in the game long enough to know exactly what she does and does not want in a potential mate. During a recent interview with rolling out, Naughton shared some of her dating pet peeves and revealed that cocky guys are just not her thing.
“The way that guys are approaching women nowadays, it’s just…ugh!” she says laughing. “They get real creative — and it’s not always good creativity. One thing when men, guys or boys are trying to step to me — I don’t like this overconfident arrogance. Especially if they’re attractive and they know they’re attractive and they think you absolutely have to want them. Like, ‘You know you see these abs!’ Negative. Put your shirt down. That’s not cute.
“Also, when people don’t understand my career and they get too possessive where they want to control very aspect of my life,” Naughton adds. “When I’m traveling and doing stuff and it’s ‘Oh you ain’t thinking about me.’ Insecurity is a turnoff. And not being confident in himself is a turnoff. You just don’t have the guts for me. I need a strong brother. Somebody that can hold in and lift me up! At the end of the day, you don’t need a man making you feel small and you don’t need him making you feel guilty.”
Naturi also isn’t a big fan of her man having a lot of female “friends” in his circle. Not that she’s jealous — she wants to know that she isn’t competing for anyone’s attention.
“I don’t like it when guys expect you to accept their little … [friends],” she says. “‘You know I got friends.‘ No — we can’t have that many ‘friends’ if you’re trying to be my ‘friend.’ It’s a certain level.”
“I love chivalry, I love a gentleman–I am very old school,” she shares. “A lot of people say ‘Oh, she played Lil Kim, she plays Tasha [on ‘Power’]’–I’m in all of these modern, sexy roles, which I love–but I am essentially a very old school kinda girl at the core.”
