One dead, four injured ahead of BET Awards in East Los Angeles
One person was killed and four others injured after a man opened fire at an overnight celebration, early Sunday morning in East Los Angeles, California ahead of the upcoming BET Awards.
While very little is known about the victims, the gunman, a lone assailant, is said to have fired several rounds shortly after 5:00 a.m., during a pre-party at Monalizza Restaurant and Banquet Hall on North Vermont Avenue. Ambulances transported three victims to a local hospital, where one died. Two other victims sought medical assistance on their own.
According to Los Angeles police officer Drake Madison, the event was related to the 2014 BET Awards, but it was not part of the official party circuit.
The 14th annual BET Awards, hosted by Chris Rock, will air live as scheduled tonight at 8 p.m. EST at the Nokia Theatre L.A. . –ruthie hawkins/@ruubabie
