Michael Sam has been at the center of a heated debate about his talent and place in the NFL all week long thanks to former NFL coach Tony Dungy’s claims that he would not have signed Sam if he were still a coach. However, Sam got a moment of redemption this week when it was revealed that he now has the highest-selling jersey in the St. Louis Rams.
According to ESPN, NFL.com revealed their list of the top selling jerseys on their website and Sam’s #96 jersey landed at the No. 6 spot on the list.
Sam is also one of only two defensive players to land on the list alongside Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, whose jersey landed at the No. 5 spot.
Landing at the top of the list was the Cleveland Brown’s Johnny Manziel, who beat out Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson (No. 2), San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick (No. 3) and Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning for the top spot.
Well, Sam may have yet to prove himself to the world to be a dominating force on the field, but he is certainly proving that he can be just as lucrative of a player as any of his heterosexual counterparts. And if that doesn’t go to show that he deserves on spot on the team and that fans want him in the NFL, then we don’t know what does. – nicholas robinson
