A welcome tradition is back. The 85th annual Bud Billiken Parade was held this past weekend, and as usual, it didn’t disappoint in providing good entertainment and a great cultural experience. This year’s theme was “Education, the one tool you can never lose.”

Great energy was generated as music was blasting and people gathered around to have a great time to celebrate the Chicago Public School students’ going back to school Sept. 2. The annual event is sponsored by the Chicago Defender, along with a host of other vendors and news sources. Chicago students were excited about the parade and got a chance to see some of their favorite radio and news stations’ hosts that made their way down the parade route.

The Bud Billiken usually features a host of celebrities, political figures and civic organizations. This year, the parade included celebrities like Diggy Simmons, Trevor Jackson, Stunt Taylor, D-Low (“Dlow Shuffle”) and Chicago legend, Chaka Khan, just to name a few. Preparations for next year’s 86th annual Bud Billiken parade are in the works now.
