Hanna Strong, a senior midfielder for the Syracuse women’s soccer team, was caught using racial and homophobic slurs towards an unspecified classmate in a video that was posted on Instagram. In the video, Strong can be seen talking to what appears to be a campus security vehicle and is standing next to an unnamed man. The man, who is African American, begins to walk away from Strong, who then notices that she’s being recorded.

“You’re recording this?” she asked the cameraman off-camera. “You f—-t a– n—-r. This is bulls–t.”

“Call me out on saying the N word, I don’t give a s–t,” Strong adds, before yelling for the cameraperson to stop recording her.

According to The Daily Orange, Strong has played in all five of SU’s games so far this season, but hasn’t recorded a shot on goal. She missed last season in it’s entirety due to injury.

“We are aware of the offensive comments made last night by a member of the women’s soccer team. This type of intolerant and hurtful language, focused on both race and sexual orientation, is not part of the culture we seek to foster among our student-athletes and it has no place at Syracuse University,” Syracuse athletic director Daryl Gross said via statement Saturday afternoon.

“Earlier today, this student-athlete was indefinitely suspended from the team by Coach Phil Wheddon. In addition, I have been in contact with Senior Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs Rebecca Reed Kantrowitz. An active investigation is underway by the University’s Department of Public Safety and Title IX Office and their findings will be immediately reported to the Office of Students Rights and Responsibilities.

“Syracuse Athletics, as a strong and diverse part of this University community, has zero tolerance for these actions.”
