After we had our fill of Times Square, we hopped in a cab and headed to Harlem to visit the world famous Apollo Theater. It was a must-visit location just so we could say that we stood on the same hallowed ground as some of music’s most legendary icons. Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Aretha Franklin and countless others have all earned their stripes at the Apollo. As we looked at the wall of fame, Golden appropriately shared, “This place feels magical.” Indeed it did.
Our final destination in New York was Melba’s, where we got a taste of some of Harlem’s best comfort food. The owner, Melba, greeted us and treated us to service worthy of royalty. From the chicken and waffles to the quaint feel of family, the time spent at Melba’s will long be remembered.
After saying her goodbyes, Golden headed back to Penn Station to travel to Chicago. It was time for her to begin part two of this creative journey. Until then…
