Danny Ferry to take leave of absence with Atlanta Hawks, still not fired

Danny-Ferry

The Atlanta Hawks GM Danny Ferry has decided to take a leave of absence. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Ferry finally realized that he needed to step away from a situation that has become toxic.

The fallout occurred after Ferry made racial remarks about Luol Deng by saying, [Luol Deng] has a little African in him. Not in a bad way, but he’s like a guy who would have a nice store out front but sell you counterfeit stuff out of the back.” He was basically calling African’s two-faced liars and cheats.

Ferry suggested that he was reading a scouting report. The recording of the conference call was released and it appeared as if Ferry was making statements that he supported and believed.

A document that appeared to be the actual scouting report also surfaced.

However, Ferry’s leave of absence is only a prelude to the inevitable. The Hawks have yet to fire Ferry, but it’s only right that the team and Ferry go their separate ways.

Ferry will never be able to exist as a GM of a team in a majority black city that’s the home of the Civil Rights movement.
