“R&B Divas Atlanta” may be a hit with fans, but it looks like it may not be a hit with TV One executives. Despite scoring massive ratings last season, reports claim that the show may not return for a fourth season.
According to AlwaysAList.com, the season three premiere of “R&B Divas ATL” garnered TV One its highest numbers for a prime time original series telecast. Despite the ratings success, there’s been no word on whether the show will be renewed or not.
“Sources close to the show said producers were planning to make significant cast changes to the “R&B Divas: Atlanta” for season four. Apparently, Syleena is the only cast member confirmed to return. Producers were still talking with Monifah and Meelah and had also set their sights on several new R&B stars to join the franchise,” the report reads.
Executive producer Phil Thornton declined to comment on the matter, but D’Angela Proctor, Senior Vice President of Programming & Production, released a statement to the series about the future of the franchise.
“While Wendy Williams already revealed our plans for ‘R&B Divas LA,’ our other ‘Diva’ plans are still top secret! Stay tuned because we’ll be ready to unveil them soon,” said Proctor.
The show’s creator, Nicci Gilbert, also commented on the matter, saying that the rumors of a cancelation are just rumors.
“I’m very excited that Season 3 of ‘R&B Divas LA’ has been confirmed by the network. As far as the rumors of ‘R&B Divas ATL’ being cancelled, until TV ONE confirms that they are only “Rumors.” As the creator of the series I would hate to see any franchise cancelled, but if the network chooses not to renew the series I would love to see a spin-off of Keke Wyatt and her family,” Gilbert explained.
“I wish all of the Divas well, it’s been a bumpy ride but a lesson and a blessing nonetheless. I look forward to sharing my ‘New Baby’ with the world soon,” she added.
Although the future of “R&B Divas ATL” may be up in the air, it seems like smooth sailing for the “R&B Divas LA” cast. The show has already been picked up for a third season, which will begin filming later this month and premiere in January. – nicholas robinson
