Late basketball legend and NBA Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain, aka Wilt the Stilt, has received a special honor, his visage on U.S. postage stamps. This honor is especially distinctive because the Kadir Nelson-designed stamps will feature two images of Chamberlain: one is based on a youthful image of him photographed in a Philadelphia Warriors uniform; and the other of him in a Los Angeles Lakers uniform.
Chamberlain’s NBA career spanned from 1959 to 1973, playing for the Philadelphia/San Francisco Warriors (1959-1965); Philadelphia 76ers (1965–1968) and Los Angeles Lakers (1968–1973).
Prior to his career in the NBA, the Philadelphia native was a Harlem Globetrotter (1958-59). The NBA star leaves a legacy of having never fouled out in a 1,205 regular-season and playoff games, and he holds the rebounding record of 23,924.
Chamberlain died of congestive heart failure in his Bel-Air, California, home on Oct. 21, 1999, at age 63.
