Mariah Carey has a few oops in Japan (watch)

Mariah Carey Performs at The BET Honors-Washington DC

Pop superstar Mariah Carey began her “Elusive Chanteuse” tour in Japan this past weekend, but the pop diva didn’t seem to be quite capable of delivering the type of performance fans have come to expect. The songstress struggled repeatedly during her performance at Makuri Messe on Saturday night in what was the tour’s opening night.

Several posts on social media criticized the singer’s performance, while many local media outlets in Japan praised Carey’s show. It was noted that Carey struggled with a microphone stand, which could have been the cause for some of the sloppiness in the performance. Carey also appeared to forget the lyrics to some of her biggest hits.

“It was not as bad (as the videos),” one source told Gossip Cop. “There were definitely some problems, but overall she was pretty good.”

Carey has 19 more dates over the next six weeks on her tour of Asia and Australia. She’s not scheduled to perform in the U.S.
