Try to have a decent amount of money saved.
This is kind of a no-brainer, but so many people move to New York City without a plan. A town with such a romanticized history of “starving artists” can draw many folks who are living on just a wing and a prayer — but that’s not the ideal way for anyone to move. Deposits, leasing fees, agent fees and storage costs are just some of the things one has to consider when moving to NYC — on top of the fact that it’s one of the most expensive cities in the United States. Try not to make the leap until you have at least $2,500 saved.
