Earlier this week, rumors spread like wildfire that Nicki Minaj and her longtime boyfriend, Safaree Samuels, had split after photos surfaced showing that Safaree had covered up his famous Nicki tattoos. Now sources have reportedly revealed details about the couple’s split.
According to TMZ, Nicki and Safaree’s 10-year relationship hit a major roadblock this year when Safaree became fed up with just being Nicki’s hypeman/personal assistant and wanted to become a superstar in his own right.
Sources claim that Nicki and Safaree had an arrangement in which it was clear that she was the breadwinner and star while he was to stay in the background as her support. However, Safaree became increasingly frustrated with his role and became hostile toward Nicki, a feeling she allegedly reciprocated.
However, things reached a breaking point recently when Safaree failed to show up to one of Nicki’s shows, leaving her scrambling to find another hype man to join her onstage. When Nicki finally confronted Safaree about his absence, he erupted and their relationship quickly crumbled.
This isn’t the first time the couple has allegedly split, though. Back in May, Minaj hinted at trouble in their long-term relationship when she tweeted “single and ready to mingle.” Sources claimed that the tweet resulted from a brief argument and that the couple quickly reconciled.
Considering how the whole world can see the cracks in their relationship thanks to Safaree’s tattoos, we think this might be the final breakup for Nicki and Safaree. –nicholas robinson
