Jazz saxophonist Jimmy Greene is honoring the memory of his daughter Ana Marquez-Greene with an album released in her memory. It’s his way of sharing his lovely daughter with the world that only knows her as one of 26 Sandy Hook school shooting victims, specifically one of 20 students killed during what is known as the Sandy Hook massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.
The album titled Beautiful Life features Ana singing “Come Thou Almighty King” while her brother plays the piano, a children’s choir made up of her classmates and brother as well as a song by Greene in honor of his beloved daughter Ana.
Greene tells NPR, “I want the music to reflect the way that Ana lived. Much attention has been paid to the way in which my precious Ana died but this album attempts to paint the picture of how she lived – lovingly, faithfully and joyfully.”
Greene is an assistant professor of music and assistant coordinator of jazz studies at Western Connecticut State University.
