A Ferguson, Missouri, police officer has faced backlash after calling the Mike Brown memorial a “pile of trash.” According to The Washington Post, officer Tim Zoll was asked about the destruction of Brown’s memorial, which occurred on Dec. 26.
Apparently, someone drove over the memorial that has become a fixture in the Ferguson community since Brown was killed by Darren Wilson.
When the Post called to get a reaction from the Ferguson Police Department, Zoll responded by saying, “I don’t know that a crime has occurred. But a pile of trash is in the middle of the street? The Washington Post is making a call over this?”
Toll was placed on administrative leave after the comments surfaced.
The Mike Brown memorial was rebuilt the morning after the driver ran over it.
