‘No Limits’ writer Ross talks erotica, other taboo topics

No limits by Ross

Erotica has become increasingly popular reading among many as exploration of one’s sexuality is played out in the pages of popular erotica books such as Fifty Shades of Grey and Zane’s series. But for the Black community, erotica has often been in the shadow of literature despite a growing audience. There is one author who is seeking to break those stereotypes and taboos with his new book, No Limits – an Erotica by Ross, which is available for download and purchase on Amazon.com.

Rolling out spoke with the author Thomas Ross, aka “Ross” about his book and inspiration.

Why do you think Black erotica has grown in popularity?

Black erotica has grown because Zane has grown, she is black erotica. With her masterful talent of eye-popping imagery, she grew bigger and bigger with every book, while carrying not only Black erotica, [but] for [carrying] erotica as a whole on her back!

What is No Limits about?

No Limits is about pushing boundaries, exploring, living [out] your fantasies, and the realistic hurdles and challenges that come with that. It’s funny, sexy and addicting. It’s also one of the few erotica [books with] enough to turn on a woman, yet written from a man’s perspective.

What is the most controversial aspect of your book?

The most controversial aspect of my book is the BDSM [bondage, discipline, sadism, masochism] in the book, which is a fairly new concept to the Black community as a whole.

Who is the audience for this book?

The audience for this book is predominant Black woman but not limited to black woman, due to some of the sex scenes being interracial. To be realistic I could not ignore the fact that we are more than ever having sex outside of our race now; to totally leave that out would be inaccurate. However the focus is on the sisters.

As a Black male, why do you feel you can write for a Black female audience when it comes to erotica?

As a Black male, I feel females are more hesitant to support my work due to the lack of Black male writers in the genre, but the queens who have supported No Limits have fell in love or lust with it. [Laughs].

Do think more young Black women are engaging in more lesbian encounters today?

No, I think more young women are engaging in bisexual encounters. It’s really hard for women totally give up what is natural, especially when they know how good it can be.

Why do you think men and women find reading about these encounters stimulating?

How real I paint the fantasy. Many women believe that I am Travis Marks. They just can’t believe he is a made up character!

What do you hope the reader will come away with after reading this book?

After reading this book, I want the reader to just let go, and allow their natural sexual instinct to take over. I want couples to break head boards, I just want the world to finally push past the taboo into the new era of [what] sex and relationships can be with a little imagination!
