Renowned actor Giancarlo Esposito (Do The Right Thing, Breaking Bad) is set to direct, produce, and star in a movie about famed abolitionist John Brown titled, Patriotic Treason.
Esposito will portray abolitionist movement leader Frederick Douglass alongside Ed Harris (A History of Violence, Gone Baby Gone), who will take on the role of Brown.
The film will be based on the book, Patriotic Treason: John Brown and the Soul of America by Evan Carton and will be adapted for the silver screen by noted screenwriter Jose Rivera.
John Brown is best known for attempting to start a slave revolt in 1859 at Harper’s Ferry. The incident lead to the deaths of 10 abolitionists, two of which were Brown’s own sons, and his eventual execution, but is credited with being one of the events that led to the Civil War.
Patriotic Treason is set to begin filming next summer.
