2 police officers shot in Ferguson during protest

[jwplatform mbchuvlh]
Last night in Ferguson, Missouri, two police officers were shot during a peaceful protest. According to many witnesses, the officers were targeted because they were cops. Both officers suffered serious injuries; one was shot in the face and the other in the shoulder. By all accounts about 70-100 protesters took to the streets in response to the announcement of the resignation of Police Chief Tom Jackson. The protesters were demanding more resignations and the dismantling of the Ferguson Police Department. Without warning, multiple gunshots rang out and the crowd scattered in panic.

It is unclear where the gunfire originated from, but according to one official it would be unfair to blame the protesters for the shooting. The city still remains a powder keg of tension, especially after a scathing U.S. Department of Justice report. The report substantiated the claims of racial bias and discriminatory practices by the Ferguson police and municipal court system.
