For nearly three decades, Karen Stallings has been making strides in the beauty business. The co-owner and creator of Colour U Cosmetics and FACE INTERNATIONAL, which she founded with her husband, has worked with global brands such as Clairol, Paul Mitchell and Redken.
“I started as a hairstylist,” she shares. “I was also a regional trainer for the hair salon chain, Hair Cuttery, before owning my salons in Virginia.”
Stallings continues to take her brand to new heights. On Friday, March 20, 2015, she’s producing ‘The Art of Colour U,’ which is a live art exhibit featuring models, graphic art, photography and cosmetics, which will be hosted by media personality Ebony Steele with entertainment provided by Pariah Cellist. This event is an opportunity for business owners to eat, drink, network, mix and mingle under one roof at Blue Mark Studios.
Here, she shares her inspiration for developing the the Colour U Cosmetics line.
Why did you develop your cosmetics line?
Colour U Cosmetics started for me personally and professionally so that I could have a product that would do what I needed to do as an artist. People who I used it on started asking where they could purchase the products, so I went to my cousin — who at that time was a patent judge — to see what my steps would be to retail to the masses.
What are the signature products and colors in Colour U Cosmetics?
Our signature products are our foundations, lipsticks and lip glosses. Colour U Cosmetics is also known for our true to color and vibrant eyeshadows. I don’t believe Colour U has a signature color. We stay with the trends in cosmetics.
Who wears Colour U Cosmetics?
The everyday consumer wears Colour U. The lady who lives next door to you with her family, college girls, models, dancers, first ladies, doctors, celebrities, young and old.
