Is it just us, or does it feel like the brains behind the forthcoming Richard Pryor biopic have been assembling the cast for years? Either way, at least the anticipated flick is moving forward.

Reportedly, comedian Eddie Murphy is in talks to join the cast of the Lee Daniel’s untitled biopic and would play the late comedian’s father, LeRoy “Buck Carter” Pryor; a boxer and WWII veteran. Mike Epps is attached to star as the legendary comedian in the Weinstein Co. drama. “Harvey (Weinstein) would like it to be released for the Oscars. Because, you know, Harvey is good at that s—,” said Pryor’s wife and producer of the film, Jennifer, during a recent podcast.

On Thursday night, Daniels posted the image below via Instagram.

“Strap in and brace yourself. They done let me and him out of our cages! #idonteventhinkimreadyforthisone! #excited #proud #OMG,” read the caption.

Murphy, who recently appeared in the “SNL” 40th anniversary special, grew up idolizing Pryor as a comedian in the ’70s. “Richard’s the one that made me want to do comedy,” Murphy has previously said. “When I was little I used to sneak into my basement and put his albums on.”

Also rumored to be cast in supporting roles in the Richard Pryor project are Oprah Winfrey and America’s sweetheart, Kate Hudson. No word as to whom they’d play just yet, but we’re sure Daniels will find a role for Winfrey. What do you think about Murphy being cast as the late, iconic comedian’s father?
