2014 was an amazing year for Kelly Rowland, thanks to the birth of her son, Titan Jewell Witherspoon. But the year wasn’t without lossess, and for Rowland that came in the form of her mother’s death just a month after her son’s birth. Although most people would be struggling to process such a difficult reality, Rowland recently explained that her son saved her from her grief.

During a recent appearance on the “The Meredith Viera Show,” Rowland talked about the loss of her mother, Doris Rowland Garrison, and explained that her son reminds her that her late mother is still with her in spirit.

“It’s definitely been a challenge. You know, my husband says, ‘You know babe, you should look at it like it’s a new normal,’ and I think that’s what I’ve done. I am just so blessed to have my son. I don’t think I’ve actually had time to really, really grieve. But I feel her presence often.”

She added, “Like something that happened the other day, Titan was laughing. I was like, ‘What is this boy laughing at?’ because it was such as belly-filled giggle. And I was like, ‘What is that?’ and he’s looking up and he’s smiling and laughing and I was like, that’s mom. Like I just know she’s always near and I am just so grateful for that. God gave me an angel he took one of my angels away but he still has her covering and hovering over us and I am so grateful and blessed.”

It’s amazing that Rowland has found grace and joy in the face of such a tragedy and we wish the best for her and her new family.
