Celebrities salute Congressman John Lewis during a star-studded 75th birthday party

Dignitaries, politicians and celebrities saluted U.S. Congressman John Lewis at his star-studded 75th Birthday Celebration, themed: Celebrating 75 Years, Portraits of John Lewis: Keeper of Faith, Protestor for Justice, Defender of Freedom.

“We are going to have a beautiful evening together, with great food, dancing and fun,” Congressman Lewis said in a press statement. “I am so humbled by the love and support of my friends and especially, my constituents in Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District. I wake up every day honored and blessed to serve them and our nation after 75 years.”


The féte was held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Tabernacle Atlanta two weeks following the 50th Anniversary of “Bloody Sunday” where he and President Barack Obama walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge to commemorate the occasion.

Honorary chairs included business-philanthropic couple Michael and Lovette Russell, Former Atlanta Mayor and UN Ambassador Andrew Young and Carolyn Young, CNN founder-environmentalist Ted Turner and Turner’s daughter and son-in-law, business-environmental couple Rutherford and Laura Seydel.


There were performances by Demetria McKinney, Regina Belle, Jennifer Holliday, Clark King, Stephan James and more. Check out the photo gallery below.
