Lil Mama is just all over the place. Seems she’s been in the groove of things since her acting debut as Left Eye in the TLC biopic. Well, she’s looking great and seems to have a new attitude since the acting bug hit and actually this was a much more perky, upbeat Lil Mama we spoke to than the Lil Mama who bum-rushed the stage during Jay-Z’s performance. I’m so glad she has finally lived that down and picked up two new signature mantras. Actress and role model. With her baby sister in tow on the white carpet at the Black Girls Rock! Awards show in New Jersey, we learned the following:
Lil Mama giving me Lil Red Riding Hood vibes

Lil Mama expressed the importance for young people to come out and experience the Black Girls Rock! experience. She turns to her little sister and says, “you know what I’m saying?”

“I tell her she’s beautiful [looks at sister]. I do tell you that, right? She’s intelligent and when you have a group of people that come together to celebrate these young women that are getting honored today who are doing things in the community. It pushes them to stay focused. So many of our young girls are having babies early and we don’t have the resources to take care of them. But we have to encourage them to keep working keep going and not tear them down. And encourage them to wait too because some of them just cannot wait!”

Check out the video where rolling out got to hear from Janelle Monae about how yoga keeps her centered and Lil Mama’s advice about how we should handle young girls when they get into trouble.
