In a new interview with Shadow and Act, The Girl is in Trouble actor Columbus Short revealed he’s producing an “Empire”-inspired gospel show for Bounce TV.

“And I’m producing a show at Bounce TV with my brother [Bounce TV president] Ryan Glover along with Russ Parr and Swirl Films. We’re producing a show that’s basically the gospel “Empire.” It’s going to be full of drama and great music. Kim Burrell is executive music producer. So I have a billion things going on, but it’s great. I love working to push the industry forward. I love to just be a part of this thing, and we’re making it happen,” he said

But that’s not it, the actor/singer who has been on quite the hiatus since an epic bar brawl late last year, announced that he is also working on a music competition series based in Africa, similar to the likes of “American Idol” and “The X-Factor.”

“I want to diversify, so I have scripted content and some reality content that’s great. From travel, to crazy families, to a show in Ghana which is basically like an “‘African Idol.’ The first season’s going to be in Ghana, then we’re going to South Africa to Kenya to Uganda. So basically, we’re making an “African Idol” like “American Idol.”

As previously reported, the “Scandal” alum, who played Harrison Wright on the ABC drama (until being killed off during last season’s finale) is plotting his return to Hollywood. During a recent chat with E! News, Short hinted that an appearance on the Fox musical drama “Empire,” starring Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard might be next.

“Big things are happening,” Short told E! News when asked about the casting rumors. “I’m going to be bridging my music career with my acting career. I’m just saying it wouldn’t be a shock.”
