‘Furious 7’ takes another victory lap to top weekend box office for 3rd consecutive week

For the third consecutive week there was no catching up to Furious 7 at this weekend’s box office.

With almost an additional $30 million earned this weekend, the ensemble action flick starring Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese, Ludacris and the late Paul Walker officially topped a billion dollars across the world. Opening in second place was the Kevin James comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, which gave Furious a good run, but ultimately fell about $5 million short with it’ intake of $24 million. Also opening strongly was the social media-themed horror, Unfriended, which brought in $16 million to take third place. The Rihanna and Jim Parsons voiced feel-good family flick, Home, was good for $10 million this week to land in fourth place. And George Tillman Jr.’s love story, The Longest Ride, rounded out the top five pulling in about $6.8 million in its second week in theaters..
