Isiah Thomas has yet to be welcomed with open arms as he prepares to take over as part-owner and president of WNBA’s New York Liberty. Thomas was recently hired by James Dolan who owns the New York Knicks, Liberty and Madison Square Garden.

Several reporters in New York spoke out against Dolan and his hiring of Thomas. Furthermore, the Women’s Sports Foundation filed a Change.org campaign that seeks to provoke the WNBA Board of Governors to deny Thomas from joining the league in any capacity.

The backlash stems from a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a former female executive who worked under Thomas during his tenure with the Knicks. Anucha Browne Sanders, a former Madison Square Garden executive, said Thomas sexually harassed her and created an uncomfortable work environment. Sanders was eventually awarded $11.6 million that was paid by the New York Knicks.

Thomas maintains his innocence and hopes to move forward with the New York Liberty.
