Kanye West blames himself for Donda West’s 2007 death
Kanye West’s mother, Donda, 58, had an untimely death in November 2007. West had liposuction, a tummy-tuck and breast-reduction surgery, which took five and a half hours. Dr. Jan Adams, the Beverly Hills cosmetic surgeon who operated on her before she died, wasn’t charged in connection with her death. Dr. Adams blames Kanye’s cousin, Dr. Stephan Scoggins — a registered nurse with a Ph.D. in public health — her chosen post-op caregiver, despite Adams’ disapproval.
In a recent interview with UK’s Q magazine, West talks candidly about the sudden loss of his mother saying, “If I had never moved to L.A. she’d be alive.” West continues as he speaks of his mother who inspired his fashion line, DONDA, “I don’t want to go far into it because it will bring me to tears.”
In 2010, West told a Los Angeles audience that he thought about killing himself. It was during a screening of his film Runaway. He also shared with the audience that in addition to his mother’s death he’d also lost three other parental figures in the last three years.
In 2013, his grandfather Portwood Williams Sr., who was laid to rest on Aug. 17, died on Aug. 10 at the age of 98.
During the interview, West pronounced his love for God: “That’s what makes me a good artist, because I can portray what’s in my head … I challenge commercialism all the time. I challenge people with sonic beauty. For a society that’s been greyed out by mediocrity, it’s like eating a whole bunch of McDonald’s and then you get some real food. What’s actually good is challenging when you’ve been served bullshit so much. The ultimate win is when a lot of people want that new good as opposed to the mediocre thing they were getting before.”
West, who will headline at Glastonbury on the Pyramid Stage, also revealed to Q that he’s releasing an album later this year.
