It was an interesting weekend at the box office.
Despite a very healthy buzz, Magic Mike XXL could only muster a lukewarm opening to place fourth in its opening week. Meanwhile runaway hit Jurassic World held off Inside Out for the third straight week to extend its run atop the chart for a fourth consecutive week.
With only a margin of $800K between them, billion-dollar box office monster Jurassic World held on to its title of box-office king with an additional $30.9 million earned. Inside Out again fell just short of Jurassic with its $30.1 million take. Next week could be interesting as Inside Out just may be able finally claim the top spot. Also not far off the pace, and having a shot at the No. 1 spot next week as well is Terminator:Genisys, which pulled in $28.7 million. The highly anticipated Channing Tatum and Jada Pinkett Smith-led Magic Mike XXL more or less faltered with only $11.6 million earned for fourth place. Warner Bros. was hoping the movie would open in the $20 million range. And rounding out the top five is Ted 2, which brought in another $11 million.
