Jason Pierre-Paul was severely injured while attempting to celebrate with fireworks on July 4. According to reports by The New York Times, Pierre-Paul of the New York Giants was near Miami when he was attempting to light fireworks.
At some point, an accident occurred and Pierre-Paul’s hand was burned. He was rushed to Broward Health North and admitted to the intensive care unit. During his stay at the hospital, there were several conflicting reports on his status.
Andy Slater, a reporter in South Florida, tweeted that Pierre-Paul could have possibly lost his hand. However, Dan Graziano of ESPN reported that Pierre-Paul suffered burns and nerve damage, but should fully recover.
But Pierre-Paul may have jeopardized a big payday. The Giants offered him a $14.8 million contract, but he has pushed for more money and a longer contract. It’s possible that the Giants could rescind their offer due to the nature of his injury.
In 2014, Pierre-Paul recorded 12 sacks.
