This is the season for power, especially for boutique owner Chiquita White. She brought a group of intriguing, intelligent and independent women together to discuss keen business tips. White sponsored an event recently with entrepreneur LisaRaye, “Power” actress Naturi Naughton, and a group black business women. The event was hosted by radio DJ Consuella of V-103. They sat down to discuss the struggles of African American women trying to succeed in film, business and other professions.
The panel wasn’t shy and shed some light on identifying many obstacles black women endure while trying to be successful. LisaRaye expressed the powers of cross promoting your brand and working hard. “We as black folks have to do more than they do. So we have to try harder. You have to have a marketing plan; we always have to do more than the average. If you want change, then you’ll have to be about change. You have to be willing to do more than what you did to get to where you are now,” she said.
The panel also elaborated on the importance of social media. Both LisaRaye and Naturi Naughton agreed that social media, such as Instagram and Facebook are like business owners’ commercials. Many companies are more interested in how many followers you have. Ideally, social media is renewing businesses.
