Marcus Coleman, 26, was faced with an echoing of his ancestral slave past and got a dose of police brutality. Coleman heard the cries of his Black female friend who was in a mentally agitated state and when he saw what was happening, he began to protest. The woman was wrapped in a blanket and carrying an infant in the parking lot of a Motel 6 when police were called to respond.
The responding officers roughly assaulted the woman as she cried out in pain and screamed for help, as officers treated her like a criminal instead of an unarmed mentally ill person in need of help. Coleman pleaded with the officers to be less aggressive with the mentally ill woman and was tasered for his efforts. The scene was reminiscent of a defenseless Black slave pleading with his White slave masters not to whip or rape his woman, and then ends up being punished for coming to her defense.
The video has gone viral since it was uploaded to Twitter this week and has been re-tweeted over 14,369 times.
